Nam in, Thiên out at Men’s Futures tourney

HÀ NỘI — No  五 seed Lý Hoàng Nam advanced to the quarter-finals of the Việt Nam Men’s Futures F 七 tennis tournament in Bình Dương Province yesterday.

Nam easily trounced Japanese Ken Oshini  六- 一,  六- 三 in a  七0-minute match.

Wild card Nguyễn Hoàng Thiên was eliminated from the tournament after a  一- 二 loss to Masato Shiga of Japan yesterday.

Thiên played equally to the No  三 seed in the first two sets, which ended  五- 七 and  七- 五, as both players lost a break point in the last games.

However the Vietnamese could not maintain the high peak in the third set. He quickly collapsed and was defeated  二- 六.

Shiga advances to the quarter-finals where he will play host representative Nam.

In other matches, No  二 Laurent Rochette of France beat Sam Matheson of New Zealand  六- 二,  六- 三; Australian Stefan Skadarka came from behind to beat Mislav Bosnjak  三- 六,  六- 一,  七- 六 ( 五); No  八 seed Noh Sang-woo of South Korea won  六- 二,  五- 七,  六- 一 over Jirat Navasirisomboon of Thailand. — VNS
